This blog update comes from Victoria, one of the newest members of the MNIK team. Victoria joined as a member of the UK board in summer 2017. She lives in London and is currently studying for a Masters at SOAS University while working full-time for TripAdvisor.
I finally was able to visit My Name is Kumar this September and to participate in the Chennai Marathon representing MNIK team.
As expected India made a great impact on me, the people, the flavours, the vibrant colours. Me, other participants and team membersof MNIK spent a week visiting the children in the education projects, also the communities that are part of the foundation's projects, and doing some sightseeing of the beautiful landscapes.
We were introduced to the main factors (social, economic, political) affecting the work done by MNIK and CARE foundation, by the project managers and the founders of both organisations, and we gained more awareness of the big impact our contribution has on the children's lives. Children look very happy, they are looked after by caring adults, they have the time to play and to study.
An atmosphere of mutual comprehension, warm hearts and optimism was shared at all times, making me realise the great job that has been done and that can still be done hopefully with many more contributors and volunteers worldwide. A big thank you to the whole MNIK and CARE foundation team for making me feel at home the entire time we spent together! Hopefully I'll be seeing you soon!
